BOAO, China — A launch event for the clinical use of Nephrospec kidney shockwave technology was held at Boao Super Hospital in Hainan on Oct. 23, 2026, from 3 to 4 p.m. Organized by Guorun International Medical and Health Industry Group (Hainan) Co., Ltd., the event featured presentations on the technology, clinical research and patient service arrangements, along with a ceremony marking the launch of clinical applications.

Nephrospec has been introduced at Boao Super Hospital, according to special-access medical device information published by Hainan Boao Lecheng International Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Co., Ltd. Its intended use is to improve renal blood flow and treat hypertension in patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Treatment suitability must be assessed by the hospital based on the device’s intended use, contraindications and each patient’s clinical condition.

The system was developed by Curespec, an Israeli medical device company founded in 2020 and headquartered in Yehud-Monosson. The company specializes in noninvasive technologies for chronic kidney disease and hypertension, focusing on the development and clinical application of kidney-targeted acoustic therapy.

Nephrospec uses electrohydraulic acoustic therapy to deliver low-intensity extracorporeal shockwaves to targeted areas of the kidneys under ultrasound guidance. The technology is not intended to break up kidney stones. Clinical research instead focuses on blood pressure control, kidney function and renal perfusion.

A prospective, single-center, single-arm pilot study published in Frontiers in Medical Technology in 2026 reported lower office blood pressure and generally stable kidney function among 15 patients who completed all follow-up visits. The findings remain preliminary because of the small sample size and lack of a control group. A separate randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled study listed on Switzerland’s official clinical research registry is designed to further assess the treatment’s effects on blood pressure, kidney function, renal perfusion and oxygenation.

At the event, Dr. Rivka Fanta, Curespec’s clinical affairs manager, presented the system’s technical features and clinical research progress. Huang Kengru, vice president of Boao Super Hospital, outlined the project’s clinical service arrangements. Participants also discussed chronic kidney disease care and the clinical use of kidney shockwave technology.

According to the project team, preparatory work has included equipment installation and theoretical and practical training for medical personnel to support the delivery of clinical services.
