On Oct. 15, a Media Tour of Hainan launched in Haikou, taking over 20 media representatives of the Christian Science Monitor, Czech Television, China Arab TV, Xinhua, and other domestic and international news organizations across Hainan, with stops at the Hainan Free Trade Port One-Stop Aircraft Maintenance Base, the Yangpu Economic Development Zone Exhibition Hall, and the Hainan Ausca International Oils and Grains Company. The reporters took an immersive look at the rapid development and vitality of the Hainan Free Trade Port across multiple sectors including aviation maintenance, urban planning, and smart manufacturing.

First Stop: The Aircraft Maintenance Industry Takes Wing

The first stop on the media tour was the Hainan Free Trade Port One-Stop Aircraft Maintenance Base.

“Thanks to the opening of air rights in the FTP, bonded aviation fuel, and Hainan’s 'zero tariff' policies, our business development has been able to leap forward." Wang Haiye, chairman of the Haikou Airport Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company, explained that between 2022 and 2024, the base's bonded aircraft maintenance business increased by over 600%, and the number of overseas customers tripled.

HNA Technic’s Grand China Aviation Maintenance Base deputy director Yang Wenbo let the data speak for itself. “As of the end of September 2025, we had completed maintenance work on a total of 2,400 aircraft. The number of overseas aircraft maintenance operations in the first half of this year has exceeded last year’s entire total, and many international airlines have become repeat customers."

Phoenix TV reporter Zhu Jiajie was impressed by the bustling atmosphere: “The development speed of Hainan's aircraft maintenance industry has exceeded my expectations and demonstrates huge potential."

Yangpu Exhibition Hall — a Glimpse of the Future

Bidding farewell to the busy aircraft hangar, the media delegation moved on to the Yangpu Economic Development Zone Exhibition Hall that afternoon.

Reporters learned about future city planning in the Danzhou Yangpu Economic Development Zone.

In the Main Events Hall, the reporters felt as though they had stepped into a ‘time tunnel’. Starting from June 1, 2020, a series of "firsts" were recorded—including the first ship registered at the "China Yangpu Port" and the first ship export tax rebate, depicting the breakthroughs brought about by policy implementation. In the temporary exhibition area, from exquisite ship models to grain, oil, and jade products eligible for benefits under the FTP’s processing value-added policies, Yangpu's industrial strength was demonstrated through the display of tangible objects, capturing everyone's attention.

The highlight of the entire visit came in the ‘flying theater’. The journalists got a bird’s eye view of Yangpu Bridge, soaring over the Dongpo Academy and across the Songtao Reservoir. Yangpu's landscape, culture, and future prospects formed a bright tapestry before their eyes. "I didn't expect Yangpu to be so beautiful!" exclaimed Wei Yan, President of Hong Kong's Home and Abroad News Press, echoing the sentiments of the whole audience.

AUSCA Smart Factory—The Seed of an Industrial Chain Transformation

The final stop of the day was the Hainan Ausca International Oils and Grains Company’s Smart Factory, located in the Yangpu Free Trade Port Area. The highly automated unmanned production line immediately became a focal point.

Media interviewed a representative of the Hainan Ausca International Oils and Grains Company’s Smart Factory.

"The unmanned production line is impressive!" exclaimed Ayoub Bechrouri, a reporter for China Arab TV. In the product display area, a dazzling array of oils lined the shelves. Reporters enthusiastically examined ingredient lists and exchanged cooking tips. "From a single seed, a long industry chain can be developed. It's truly remarkable," said Bechrouri as he examined the products.

At the factory, the company’s deputy general manager Cao Youhua explained that Ausca Grain and Oil is not only a key investment project in Yangpu, but was also the first pilot company in China to enjoy the benefits of the FTP’s tariff-free policy for value-added processing. The company is leveraging the technological advantages of the smart factory and the policy advantages of the bonded port area to accelerate development.

Over the course of just one day, the media representatives were able to take in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port across multiple dimensions, from the roar inside the hangars at the aircraft maintenance base to the vision of the future at the planning exhibition hall and the highly automated production lines at the smart factory. The sites visited on the media tour demonstrate the momentum of the coordinated development of high-end manufacturing, modern services, and high-tech industry in Hainan, all boosted by the favorable policies of the FTP.
