In 2013, the first pair of rare pileated gibbons were released at the jungle near Cambodia’s Angkor Wat as part of a wildlife conservation programme. With the efforts of environmental protection workers, Angkor Wat has now become home of many wild animals. In addition to gibbons, there are also silvered langurs, smooth-coated otters, leopard cats, wreathed hornbills, green peafowl and other animals living there. Angkor Wat is the largest temple complex in the world and the world’s oldest Khmer architecture. Since Angkor Wat became a world heritage site in 1992, its jungle, which covers more than 6,500 hectares, has benefited from increased protections.
