The second phase of Haikou Meilan International Airport in south China’s Hainan Free Trade Port was officially put into use on Thursday. Passengers who experienced the first flights at the airport’s new Terminal 2 enjoyed a smart travel experience throughout the process of check-in, security check, and waiting for their flights. Let's take a look.

Terminal 2 of Haikou Meilan International Airport is equipped with 15 pre-security check gates, featuring a facial recognition system to achieve one-pass customs clearance. HAN XING

Terminal 2 has adopted an advanced destination coded vehicle (DCV) baggage handling and transportation system. Passengers with luggage can check in through the self-service machine or at the check-in counter, and their luggage will be scanned and delivered through the conveyor belt to a yellow tray, and then transported to the corresponding destination. The system can sort 4,000 pieces of baggage per hour. The millimeter wave scanners at Terminal 2 used for the security check can detect hidden forbidden objects within 5 to 10 seconds. The intelligent basket return system beside the scanners will automatically send empty baskets back to the front of the line, reducing both wait times for passengers and the workload of the security staff. HAN XING

Terminal 2 provides passengers with 500 smart luggage carts which offer departure gate guidance, flight notices, entertainment, mobile phone charging, and more. HAN XING

The waiting area at the new Terminal 2 at Meilan Airport has 4,900 USB port equipped seats and standard power sockets. HAN XING
