2021 Hainan FTP Business Promotion Conference held in Guangzhou

The 2021 Hainan Free Trade Port Promotion Conference for Japanese Enterprises was held in Guangzhou—the capital of China’s Guangdong Province—on November 25, co-sponsored by the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province, the Guangzhou Office of the Hainan Provincial Government, the JETRO Guangzhou Office, and Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development. There to learn about the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and to look for investment opportunities in Hainan, the 200 representatives of Japanese institutions and companies from Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong of China, and Japan attended either in person or via live-streaming.

Organizers of the conference introduced the Hainan Free Trade Port’s core policies and investment opportunities, consumer goods sector development opportunities, and information about how to participate in the second China International Consumer Products Expo (2022 Hainan Expo). Some enterprises, such as Eternal Group, which have already launched in Hainan also introduced their investment and development experience on the island.


Japanese Consul General Keiji Kamei said that the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port has attracted much attention worldwide and that he hopes enterprises will use the platform of this event to deepen their understanding of the FTP.

"Today's presentation gave us a more comprehensive understanding of Hainan and the changes in Hainan," said Sugano Tatsushi, president of the Guangzhou Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. "Hainan's development is remarkable and attractive. With the goal of achieving a win-win situation as soon as possible, our more than 600 member companies are all looking forward to carrying out substantial cooperation with Hainan in traditional industries and fields such as medical care."

Representatives from institutions such as the Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and enterprises including Mizuho Bank, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui & Co., Toyota Tsusho, Japan Airlines, Hitachi Transport System, and Panasonic attended the meeting. There were also companies involved in aviation, the automotive industry, logistics, pharmaceuticals, food, consumer goods, and finance.
