Among the first batch of institutional innovation cases of the Hainan free trade port, the Talents Training Programs for Hainan Tourism Industry has facilitated tourism talent cultivation in the province. By the end of 2020, the project had benefited more than 39,000 industry insiders.

Mr. Zhu Jianxin, a hotel staff member, attends the courses set by the project at Hainan University on weekends. He said that he had gained a lot of knowledge from those courses and would complete his studies and receive a diploma next June.

It can not only improve my education, but also the overall quality of our future employees, Zhu Jianxin said.

As of October this year, over 6,000 tourism practitioners had applied for this year’s training courses. Besides the hotel industry, personnel of travel agencies, scenic spots and tourism catering were also attracted. In the future, the project plans to extend its courses to other industries such as the exhibition industry, the yacht industry and the homestay industry. It aims to gradually establish an authoritative qualification and certification system for the tourism sector in line with international standards and  cultivate high-level international tourism talents.

Xie Xiangxiang, deputy dean of the School of Tourism of Hainan University points out that they hope to promote the development of the tourism industry by cultivating high-end talents with sufficient sci-tech and cultural knowledge through such a project.
