Located in Lingshan Town, Meilan District, Haikou, 898 Art Village, a part of the 200 year-old East Quanyong Village, boasts many artistic attractions, and has gone viral in the past few months.

There are hidden “gems” around every corner waiting to be discovered in the village. Eye-catching images depicting palm trees, the sea, and folk customs, as well as idyllic scenery are painted by artists from across China on white walls, tires, and other random spots.

Some of the artists have opened art galleries and studios in 898 Art Village where they also hold a variety of art classes for children on the weekends. These classes include pottery, painting, and drawing in addition to picture book reading classes, which provide a unique opportunity for children living in this area to develop the skills and imagination that are crucial aspects of childhood development.

In addition to beautifying the old village with art, this project also enables locals to earn money by renting out and decorating the art studios.

In August 2020, the art village officially opened to visitors. Within less than half a year, 3 art galleries and dozens of art studios have been set up in the village.
