Hainan CNY Island Departure Duty-Free Sales Over ¥1.5 Billion

According to the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province, the market in Hainan was active over the Spring Festival period, with an abundance of supplies and stable prices, showing that shoppers enjoyed shopping at Hainan’s Island Departure Duty-Free Stores. Statistics show that Hainan’s 7-day Spring Festival holiday Island Departure Duty-Free store sales totaled over ¥1.5 billion.

All of Hainan’s nine Island Departure Duty-Free stores offered a variety of promotional activities to attract shoppers during the Spring Festival holiday. From Feb. 11 to 17, Hainan’s Island Departure Duty-Free store sales were over ¥1.5 billion, double those of the 2019 Spring Festival holiday before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some shoppers elected to have their purchases sent to them via post. From Feb. 11 to 16, China Post sent a total of 1,046 Island Departure Duty-Free products.

Shoppers not only enjoyed Island Departure Duty-Free goods, but also supermarket shopping.According to statistics released by the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province on major Hainan supermarkets including Carrefour, RT-Mart, and Vanguard, Hainan’s top nine supermarkets’ sales topped ¥0.11 billion, a year-over-year increase of 86.13%. From Feb. 11 to 16, the average retail prices of the six main living necessities: grains, cooking oil, meat, poultry, eggs, and vegetables decreased from last year’s prices.
