What is the Chinese Zodiac? As an important part of Chinese culture, it’s a 12-year astrological cycle in which a zodiac animal is assigned to each year of an ever-repeating rotation.
After February 11 this year, when Spring Festival was celebrated, people welcomed the Year of Ox. Wait… how is this decided?
According to an ancient folk story, the legendary Jade Emperor organized a race and decreed that the years on the calendar would be named for the top 12 finished animals in the order they reached him. Later, these animals represent the 12 Chinese zodiac signs, in the following order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
To find out your own Chinese zodiac sign, you can simply match your birth year with its corresponding zodiac animal, according to the following table.
