The third Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) will hold both in-person and virtual screenings from Dec. 5 to 12 in Sanya, Hainan. This year’s showcase will include virtual viewing options to boost international presence amid the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.
Around 200 films from 60 countries and regions will be screened online or offline at 15 cinemas and the main beach screening venue.
A total of 4,376 films from 114 countries and regions are competing for awards this year, up from some 2,000 films a year ago.
This year, the HIIFF is introducing "H!Future New Talent Awards" to promote and encourage newcomers to the film industry. From 125 films submitted for the awards, 12 films will be selected and screened.
