During the 2026 Labor Day holiday (May 1–5), Haikou Meilan International Airport is expected to serve 2,703 flights carrying a total of 407,400 passengers, year-on-year increases of 3.3% and 3.4% respectively. The highest peak in passenger numbers is expected on May 1, with a total passenger volume exceeding 88,000. To support holiday travel, the airport has increased both the number of routes and flight capacity, and is offering a number of convenient services and benefits.
For domestic routes, top destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xi’an. The airport has partnered with China Southern Airlines, Capital Airlines, Air China, Juneyao Airlines, and other carriers to add service between Haikou and Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Changsha, and Nanning. For international routes, short-haul flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta are in strong demand, while long-haul routes to Sydney and Auckland are also seeing a rise in bookings, reflecting an increase in cross-border travel.

To boost tourism, Hainan has issued RMB 30 million worth of “Flight +” cultural and travel vouchers. Available daily from 10:00 to 23:00 between April 25 and September 30 via the “Very Cool! Hainan” Mini Program and Cloud QuickPay APP, the vouchers offer ¥200 off flights, ¥100 off hotels, and ¥30 off tickets to scenic attractions, with extra rewards automatically granted after redemption. To cater to the growing number of vacationing families, the airport has opened four themed children’s play areas (aviation, aerospace, nature, and ocean) and six dedicated nursing rooms. The airport has also coordinated with the Haiqi Group to add to the number of intercity shuttles, increase airport bus and public transit frequencies, and provide volunteer assistance, first-time flyer support, and late-arrival butler services.
On April 29 and May 1, the “FINEDAY Fly Meilan - Visit Scenic Spots - Enjoy Gifts” event will be held at Terminals 1 and 2, featuring flash performances, mascot interactions, and free scenic area vouchers for travelers.
Important reminders: Due to high passenger volume, travelers are advised to arrive at the airport 2–3 hours early for check-in and security screening. It’s currently thunderstorm season in Hainan, which may result in flight schedule adjustments due to weather conditions—please check airport flight information displays, listen carefully to announcements, and keep track of official airline updates. For flight refunds or scheduling changes, please use your original booking channel. 24-hour service hotline: 0898-966114
Online consultation is also available via Meilan Airport’s Douyin live stream.
