In Ligshui, southwest of Li’an Town, there’s an ancient fishing village standing on the shore of the bay - Lingzai Village. Here, where the ocean kisses the land, you’ll find palm groves, rice paddies, and fishing boats, as well as a traditional Hainan fishing village lifestyle.

The village beach is a shallow, wide, flat expanse where starfish, small fish, and variety of shellfish can be seen peeping up from the sandy shallows at low tide, providing the perfect venue for a serene bit of ocean exploration. Grab a shovel and bucket, and scoop up your own dinner! Your fresh catch can be cooked to order at the village’s many food stalls, giving you a chance to savor the fresh, savory flavors of the sea.
South of Lingzai Village lies a prehistoric shell mound site—the Lingshui Neijiao Site. Preliminary analysis by archaeologists suggests the site dates back approximately 3,000 to 5,000 years. The area has yielded polished stone tools, pottery, shells, animal bones, and postholes. This site holds traces of ancient human activity, telling the story of how people lived along this coastline long before the modern era began.

There are still a few historic residences and courtyards built of coral stone in the village, each one steeped in the memories of generations of local fishing families.
In recent years, Lingshui has made excellent use of the area’s superior natural conditions, developing a strong aquaculture industry producing grouper, golden pomfret, and other marine fish fry on a large scale. Lingzai Village benefits from participating in the Nanfan Fish Fry Breeding Project. In 2025, the village was selected as one of ‘Hainan Province's Beautiful Villages’, and is currently integrating coastal resources as the region explores a sustainable development path for countryside tourism.
As the tides roll in and out, and the days turn into years, this ancient fishing village remains much the same as it was long ago. Looking for a quiet village to wander and explore? Lingzai Village is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy life.
