ASEAN, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, has been China's largest trading partner for three consecutive years, and agricultural products make up a key part of commodities traded between China and ASEAN countries. Hainan is China's only tropical island. The country's geographical location and natural conditions are unique, and its tropical high-efficiency agriculture has become indispensable. With the implementation of a series of Hainan Free Trade Port policies and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), Hainan has become the only region in the country where the domestic supply chain and supply chains both within and outside the RCEP area can achieve "zero tariffs".
This has brought excellent opportunities, but also challenges. The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023“Dialogue in Hainan” sub-forum on March 29 discussed cooperation and future development opportunities between Hainan, China and ASEAN in the field of tropical agriculture.
