The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix concluded recently with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez beating all other players. The Grand Prix, after a two year hiatus, smashed a 13-year record in the number of spectators, more than half of which were from overseas, indicating that Singapore's tourism economy is gradually getting back on track.

The F1 Singapore Grand Prix, which has been suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officially resumed this year. Despite a sudden rainstorm that delayed the start of the race by an hour on the evening of October 2nd, the enthusiasm of the fans didn’t fade amid the heated live atmosphere.

A spectator said, “There are the roars of the cars. It was pretty nice even though the weather was not amazing today. (Reporter: Which team is your favorite?) Alpine, of course. Our French team.”

The slippery track after the downpour posed a greater challenge to the drivers. Amidst the roar of the cars, Red Bull’s Perez held off Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to clinch first place at the F1 Grand Prix.

Another spectator told the correspondent, “This is my first time. But I’ve been a fan for quite a while. It was fine that Perez won. Probably in another country, so I could get to experience different types of atmospheres.”

According to statistics, the race attracted over 302,000 spectators, setting a new record for the event. About 51% of the audience were from overseas, including Australia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, the Netherlands and the United States. This year's Formula 1 race has had a very strong knock-on effect and marks the beginning of a return to normalcy for Singapore's tourism economy as it emerges from the impact of the pandemic.
