Hainan Covid-19 updates for August 11

Since August 1, swift and effective measures have been taken to fight the Covid-19 outbreaks in South China’s Hainan Province, with more than 10,000 medical workers from 19 provinces and regions across the country assisting the island province. Following are some of the latest updates for pandemic prevention and control across the island.

According to information released at a press conference held by the Hainan COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control Headquarters yesterday, Hainan plans to set up a total of over 15,800 treatment beds in temporary hospitals around the island. Currently, these temporary hospitals can accommodate over 4,700 patients.

With the assistance of Covid-19 testing institutions from other provinces, an extra 1.79 million tests can now be processed every day.

Sanya reduces the number of high-risk Covid-19 areas to 88

According to the Sanya Covid-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control Headquarters, Hainan’s Sanya city reported 480 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and another 774 asymptomatic infections on August 10.

A total of 1,690 confirmed cases and 1,504 asymptomatic infections have been reported in the city since August 1, in a wave attributed to China’s first cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.5.1.3.

The Headquarters issued an announcement on Wednesday that the number of high-risk areas in Sanya has been reduced from 90 to 88, while the number of medium-risk areas is now 26. The changes were made according to the requirements of pandemic prevention and control as well as the assessment of medical experts.

Aug. 10th Haikou Mass Testing: All Negative

According to Haikou COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control Headquarters,

On August 10, Haikou City, during its third round of mass Covid-19 screening across four urban districts, tested a total of 2,764,224 people. As of 9 AM on August 11, results from the third round of mass screening were all negative.
