For Dai In Kong, signing the media cooperation framework agreement on behalf of the KCTV Jeju Broadcasting Company (KCTV Jeju) with the Hainan International Media Center (HIMC) was an important step, both toward a deeper friendship between Hainan Province and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, as well as promoting understanding, friendship and cooperation between two peoples. Kong, CEO of KCTV Jeju, signed the “One City, One Media” International Sister Province Media Cooperation Agreement via video link at a ceremony held by HIMC last week. “We have entered into a cooperation framework agreement with HIMC to foster mutual exchange. I believe this is a very significant step, particularly on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea.”

The agreement states that HIMC and KCTV Jeju will strengthen exchange and cooperation in four areas, including media content production; the creation of special webpages and mutual promotion of each other’s programs and news reports; media channel sharing and in-depth interaction through various forms of communication; as well as sharing information regarding each other’s tourism and economic development.

“Hainan and Jeju are sister provinces and both are excellent travel destinations that attract tourists from around the globe with their cultures and stunning views.” Dai In Kong believes that Hainan and Jeju share many similarities and aspects worthy of mutual cooperation, including natural scenery and cultural tourism. Hainan, long a tourism hotspot, is in the process of becoming a free trade port with relatively independent customs operations and an unprecedented degree of freedom to legislate on issues relating to its development. Similarity, Jeju is the first special self-governing province established in South Korea and has made remarkable strides in administration, becoming a north-east Asian International Free City and top tourist destination. As international media centers of their respective provinces, both HIMC and KCTV Jeju produce content in multiple languages, with HIMC producing and broadcasting content in Chinese, English, and Russian, and KCTV Jeju in Korean, English, and Chinese. Kong has high hopes for the media agreement, which marks the start of cooperation between HIMC and KCTV Jeju, through which both parties will share information on each other’s cultures, tourism, economies, and ecology. The agreement is also the foundation upon which greater cooperation and a stronger friendship between the sister provinces will be built, Kong concluded that, HIMC and KCTV Jeju should share each other’s wonderful stories with the world.
