A new guest has appeared at Haikou's Evergreen Park, the Asian Glossy Starling. Many bird lovers from Haikou and neighboring areas have come to the downtown park, waiting beneath the kapok trees day and night for an opportunity to catch a glimpse of it.
The Asian Glossy Starling, usually found in Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, has been listed in the "IUCN Red List of Threatened Species". Both the male and female birds measure about 20 centimeters long, and their metallic green plumage and bright red eyes are quite striking in Hainan's bright sunlight.
