Hainan to Launch 2 Supercomputing Satellites in Wenchang

By / SSTV / Updated: 16:16,20-January-2022

On January 17, the satellites “Wenchang Supercomputing 2” and “Wenchang Supercomputing 3” successfully left the factory in Changchun, Jilin Province for Wenchang, Hainan Province. They are scheduled to be launched at China’s Wenchang Satellite Launch Site in the near future.

Jointly built by the Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. and the Hainan Shiny-day Group, the two satellites belong to a new generation of high-resolution remote sensing satellites. They adopt innovative technologies such as lightweight structure design and highly integrated electronic systems, having the characteristics of low cost, low power consumption, light weight and high resolution.

Zhu Jishuai, general manager of Hainan Branch of Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., said that compared with the satellite “Wenchang Supercomputing 1,” the 2 and 3 have higher spatial resolution and lighter weight. They will be able to provide services with higher spatial resolution quickly for the whole island, and offer refined and accurate information for the government’s decision-making.

After launch, the two satellites will be networked with "Wenchang Supercomputing 1" and 31 other satellites of the Chang Guang Constellation in orbit. Together with the Wenchang Aerospace Supercomputing Center and the Wenchang Satellite Receiving Station, all these Aerospace big data facilities will play a significant role in urban management, marine management, ecological protection, etc.
