On January 13, thirteen photographers who were participating in a media communication activity co-organized by the Hainan Daily Press Group and the (Guangdong) Nanfang Media Group captured the artistic charm of the Wormhole Library, an iconic attraction located on Haikou Bay in south China’s Hainan Province.

Built as part of a rejuvenation plan to improve the public space along the coastline of Haikou Bay, the 1,400 square meter Wormhole Library is located on the northwest side of the Century Park’s Music Square. Featuring circular apertures piercing the walls and ceiling to bring light into the building, the library houses a 690 square meter two-storey reading room that has space for 10,000 books.

“The Wormhole Library is much more like an artistic, distinctive piece of architecture than a common library,” said Chen Zhigang, a photographer from the Nanfang Media Group. He added that the library by the sea is well suited to the tropical island of Hainan, and wonderful photos can be taken on sunny days or in the golden light of the sunset.

In June 2020, China released a master plan for the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port that proposed to promote the joint development of Hainan and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This photography activity, which brought together the two major media groups in Hainan and Guangdong, has provided a good opportunity for exploring media cooperation by discovering the beauty of the two areas.
