In the early stage of the Hainan Gibbon acoustic monitoring project, the acoustic basic data of gibbons and their companions in the habitat were collected by arranging sound recording devices for different gibbon populations, which will provide a basis for the establishment of an acoustic database and other conservation research work.
Wang Jichao, person in charge of Acoustic Monitoring Project of Hainan Institute of National Parks, said that in addition to providing first-hand information for monitoring gibbon population dynamics, more importantly, the data can assess what other species accompany gibbons in their habitat.
At the symposium, the 2021 Hainan Gibbon Survey was officially launched. The annual survey can regularly master the latest situation of the Hainan gibbon population and their habitat, which plays a key role in grasping timely information and making protection plans.
“Only through manual monitoring can we know the situation of gibbon family groups. It can provide data support for conservation plans,” said Qi Xuming, senior engineer of 2021 Hainan Gibbon Survey.
