Haikou Clock Tower: a witness of the city

One of the many interesting attractions found here, the Haikou Clock Tower is the symbol of the city. The six-story tower stands 27 meters high and is made of red brick in the European Gothic style with eight arrow spires standing tall on the top.

The Tower was originally built around 1928, an initiative of a patriotic businessman who raised funds from Hainan expatriates for the purpose of foreign trade. At the time, it was one of the tallest structures in the city! In 1987, the clock tower was rebuilt near its original site after being partially destroyed.

Standing on Changdi Road in the northern part of the old downtown area, the clock tower bears witness to the long history and rapid development of Haikou.
