The gigantic 95,000-square-meter Hainan Tourism Duty-Free Shopping Complex in downtown Sanya, one of Hainan Island’s biggest tourist and shopping attractions, will enhance its appeal with the addition of over 160 new global brands by the end of July.

It is already home to over 700 international brands, including Italian fashion designers Marni and Etro, and leading jewellers Tasaki from Japan and Messika from Paris, appearing in the Hainan market for the first time.

Opened on December 30, 2020, the shopping mall was ready in just 130 days, thanks to the joint efforts of different departments, which is a highlight of the rapid development of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP).

Hainan has adjusted its duty-free shopping policy to increase the duty-free shopping quota to 100,000 yuan ($15,450) per person. The range of duty-free goods has been expanded to 45 categories. The changes were made in July 2020, after the master plan for the development of the Hainan FTP was issued.

The Hainan Tourism Duty-Free Shopping Complex aims to be the mall with the most complete range of perfume and cosmetic brands among the present nine duty-free shops on the island. It already has 165 brands in this range of goods. In addition, it is the only duty-free shop in Hainan to have a VIP lounge providing more customer-oriented services.

Tommy Coleman, an overseas communication officer from the Hainan International Media Center, expressed his amazement when he visited the shopping complex as part of a media fam trip.

The media group also visited provincial capital Haikou and other areas, ranging from the ecological Danzhou to Ledong with its traditional lifestyle for a better understanding of Hainan and the development of the Hainan FTP.
