From June 17th to 18th, the English Speaking Contest of 2021 National Vocational Students Skills Competition has been held in Wenchang, Hainan.

A total of 31 teams from all over the country gathered at the competition to fight for the win. Since the reform of the competition system, this is the first event of its kind to be held. An annual event in China's vocational education industry—the National Vocational Students Skills Competition is currently the one with the widest professional scope, the most contestants, the greatest social impact, and the greatest number of organizing departments.

According to Li Yuenan, Deputy Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Education, this will be the first time a high-level oral English competition has been held in Hainan and doing so is an important action in response to the need to build Hainan's educational environment such that the province becomes an "International Education Innovation Island".

This competition is the highest level vocational English skills competition in China and, since it began, it has not only held a significant leading role, it has also constantly witnessed and highlighted the fruitful results of the development and reform of China’s vocational education.

Yang Xueqian, the Vice-President of Hainan College of Foreign Studies said, "By promoting communication with contestants from all over the country, solutions may be found to some of the weaknesses which we have in the process of cultivating foreign language talents. Hopefully, this will help us with the reform and improvement of our training modes and methods".

"As this competition is a competition which aims to promote English teaching and especially English learning, contestants who participate in it are ones who have already shown themselves willing to pay a great deal of attention to their ability at foreign languages. and their own innate abilities will grow stronger", said Li Shujing, chief of Vocational Education publishing, FLTRP. In her perspective, such competitions will promote the cultivation of foreign language talents in Hainan and promote the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
