Dongjiao Town,in Wenchang City, Hainan Province, is known as "Coconut Town". Here, residents not only make coconut snacks like coconut candy, coconut cakes, and coconut rice, but local artisans also turn discarded coconut shells into beautiful works of art.

75-year-old Fu Shiqiong is a local celebrity in the town of Dongjiao, where he was born into a family of coconut carvers. He learned his coconut carving skills from his father, and he is still innovating to create a series of unique coconut carving artworks which reflect the local folklore of Hainan.”Story of Coconut Hometown" is one of his masterpieces.

Needing only a simple carving knife and a workbench, Fu Shiqiong often sits all day in his humble workshop hidden deep in a coconut grove. The patterns he needs to carve have long been memorized by heart, each stroke clearly showing the hard-won experience of long years.

These days, Fu Yungangruns a coconut carving factory in Dongjiao Town, where a variety of coconut carving crafts are  lovingly created.

Behind each exquisitely carved coconut, there are countless artisans' wisdom and hard work. It is in this way that even a humble coconut can represent Hainan’s vibrant culture to the world.
