Recently, a home cooking contest which was held by Chimac restaurant and pub has kicked off in Haikou. A number of foreign friends took part in this great contest with passion. Being different from the normal competition, the home cooking contest is held online, which means that every participant can cook meals at home and take pictures of the cooking process and the dishes, then send the pictures to the official platform. The contest is held once a week during the epidemic period. The one who gets the most votes will be the winner of the contest.

"I was thinking about how to do some community activities without people gathering together. I thought if everyone is cooking at home and posting their food on social media. Why not have a Home Cooking Contest? " said David who held the activity.

During the epidemic period, instead of visiting friends and relatives, most of people stay at home and cook meals for themselves. Washing ingredients, cooking meals in a healthy way and taking a picture of the delicious food, contestants enjoy cooking delicious food at home.

“I took part in the contest and I made enchiladas,” said Sarah Sinskie, one of the contestants who lives in Wenchang, Hainan. Sarah has a special way to cook the chicken, which can make the chicken tender and nice. “I cook the chicken in the crockpot for about 2-3 hours beforehand. The rest is about 20 minutes preparation and 20 minutes in the oven,” she said.

Sarah is adept at cooking and she often makes tasty food for her family. “It’s American cuisine. I cook it fairly often, but I try to rotate dishes around so my family doesn’t get tired of them,” she said.
