Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi to attend the 2nd HIFF

As the Second Hainan International Film Festival (HIFF) is about to kick off next weekend, it is officially announced that Iranian writer-director Asghar Farhadi, an Oscar-winner, will attend the Master Carnival of the HIFF, following the famous directors Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Stanley Kwan.

Asghar Farhadi, an Iranian film master whose films examine ethical problems and social issues, won the Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film twice, respectively for A Separation in 2012 and The Salesman in 2017, becoming the first Iranian director to win the Academy Award. The reflection on social issues and humanity in A Separation makes Farhadi a recognized film master.

At the same time, Farhadi's film has also won numerous awards at international film festivals. In 2016, The Salesman won the award for Best Screenplay and Best Actor in the main competition unit of Cannes International Film Festival. In 2011, A Separation won the awards for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actresses at the Berlin International Film Festival. In 2009, with in-depth discussion on the social issue of gender inequality in Iran, About Elly won the Silver Bear Award for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival.
