Hainan Island reading lifestyle: Read the Page When the Wind Stops By

In this winter, a costal garden hotel in Sanya, Hainan has been transformed into a large book house of 27,000 square meters, creating a functional and design-oriented reading space by making full use of the characteristics of the hotel. People can immerse themselves in the sea of books while enjoying a warm winter.

From November 15 to 18, the first Hainan Island International (Tourism) Book Fair (HIIBF) is held in Sanya, presenting a trade platform and brand new tourist destination, so as to explore a unique reading culture in Hainan.

The guests from all over the world tend to read and know about Hainan through the platform of HIIBF in different ways. The island reading lifestyle named "Read the Page When the Wind Stops By" that the HIIBF advocated, has impressed many people, and it will promote the integration of culture and tourism to build Hainan into a cultural tourist destination.

Hainan Island reading lifestyle

The "Floating Library", which was transformed from three fishing boats, was quietly moored at the pier of the fishing village of West Island in Sanya City. Children returning from school like to go there to read books or do handwork. The "Floating Library" has become the spiritual beacon of the West Island, illuminating the cultural development of the island.

In 2017, the "Floating Library" was built and became the first public library on West Island. Thanks to that, the villagers of the West Island gradually integrated their readings into daily life, and followed the artists to create artworks with coconut shells, glass bottles, waste paper and other recyclable materials, and participated in environmental protection activities.

The sentence "Read the Page When the Wind Stops By" is engraved on a wooden board inside the "Floating Library" to express the concept of casual reading by following your heart with the sea breeze. As the first book fair held in Hainan, the HIIBF not only attempts to build a brand of international book fair, but also to convey the concepts of loving reading, art and environmental protection through a kind of casual reading culture.

Various Activities of Floating Library

On November 16th, the "Floating Library" held a poetry reading activity on the island. 40 poetry lovers across the country gathered and read poems to express their feelings.

In the Floating Library, the poets sat together to take turns to read one short poem to express their love for family, friends and lovers, so that the sea breeze was filled with poetry on West Island. "We encourage everyone to read poems to express the words that they normally won't speak, to express their feelings bravely. We also record videos for every reader. With the editing of music, they can send videos to the people they want to read the poem for," said Qin Jiayi, the founder of "Floating Library".

In recent years, beautiful book houses appeared in Hainan one after another, such as the "Floating Library" on West Island, the "Phoenix Palace Book Store" in Wanning City and the "Shared Study" in Qionghai City, creating elegant, comfortable and humanized reading spaces to cultivate people's interest in reading.

The integration of culture and travel

In recent years, the integration of culture and travel has become more and more popular, and the cultural elements have become an important reason for people to choose their travel destinations. Hainan is full of tourism resources, and it aims to further integral culture and tourism to promote related industries.

Someone said: "Either read or travel, you may find yourself on the road." In Hainan, pick your favorite book, and read it under the blue sky, you can start a journey inside your heart.
